Combating violence against women

On December 3rd, the Alliance organized a festival in Baghdad that included a variety of activities in women affairs and survivors of gender-based violence

The festival began by introducing the festival’s organizers, explaining the role of women in society.

The Mercy Hands Alliance (Mercy Hands, Mercy Hands Europe, the Seventh Sense for Media and Culture Foundation, and lawyer for Women Center) participated in the 16 Days of UN Activism campaign against gender-based violence. From November 25 to December 10, Mercy Hands Alliance will direct attention to violence against women in Iraq.

The Iraqi professional artist in painting (Rola AJ) gives a lecture on the role of art in Trauma healing and self-expression and presenting the drawings that were drawn by the GBV survivals and activists in the last drawing workshop organized by the Mercy Hands Alliance.

Through the festival, Lawyers Women Center participated in a presentation about women rights in Iraqi law, presented by lawyer Amani Muhammad.

It is happy to see the participants interacting with the presentation, so one of the GBV survivals sharing her story with the audience and showing what she was exposed to in terms of domestic violence and the linkage of her story with their practice in the last drawing workshop.



An Iraqi poetess Ekhlas Al-Ta'ai shared a poem she sent from her sick bed to say that nothing can silence a woman’s voice, not even her sick bed that the musician (Maysam Samir) recited it.It is happy to see the participants interacting with the presentation, so one of the GBV survivals sharing her story with the audience and showing what she was exposed to in terms of domestic violence and the linkage of her story with their practice in the last drawing workshop.

The professional purple band (musician band) participated in the festival with music and songs about women, and musical performance for soul relief.

An Academic Engineering Teacher and professional musician (Maysam Samir) participated in pieces of music to express the importance of music and its role in overcoming the effects of violence.

Seventh sense foundation for media and culture presented gifts made by active women, each carrying a message of encouragement to the participating women and had a clear effect in adding a smile on the faces of the participants when reading the message.

At the end of the festival, one photo gather all participants with the organizers of the festival, with the participation, when the positive reactions were clear on the features of the attendees and participants.
